I usually don’t post stuff like this on my blog because I usually just hide it away in a journal somewhere. But I guess today I’m being brave. That and I have at least two more posts to bury this one under, so maybe most of you won’t even see it :)
I really like listening to Christian rock music. I was getting ready for church this morning and listening to Casting Crowns on Pandora this morning when Slow Fade came on. Because of a few things that happened this weekend this song really got me thinking this morning about what’s really important in life.
We often hear that you can stand in one place, you are either moving forward or sliding backward, nothing is ever static. This past weekend I’ve been even more grateful for the choices I’ve made up till now that have made my life, well, ordinary and boring (as in not exciting in bad ways) Also the past few days I’ve been realizing that even though I’m not making bad choices some of my choices aren’t the best ones. I’ve been realizing I need to learn to say no more often and that my kids and being a mom is the very most important thing in my life.
I have this quote from David O McKay that says “No success in life can compensate for failure in the home” My most important job is to raise my kids to know what’s right and wrong, to love Heavenly Father and Jesus, and all that other good mom stuff. Anyway, that’s what I’ve been thinking of this week and then this song just kind of summed it all up for me this morning and made me think about it again. I was going to highlight the parts I liked the best, but then I realized most of it would be highlighted.
Slow Fade
Be careful little eyes what you see
It's the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it's the little feet behind you that are sure to follow
It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It's a slow fade, it's a slow fade
Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray
It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
The journey from your mind to your hands
Is shorter than you're thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
You just might be sinking
It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day
Oh be careful little eyes what see
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
