Lincoln 6 months

Lincoln turned 6 months old last week.  I can’t believe how much he’s changed in the past month!  He’s getting so big.  When Lincoln was born and back in the hospital for a few days the nurses kept commenting on how wiggly he was.  He still just goes and goes.  All my other babies were mellow and not worried about showing off their skills, but not Lincoln!  I’m sure he does way more at this point than the other boys did.

So what does he do?

He crawls (ish) We’ll call it an army crawl, but he is up on his knees too and it won’t be long.  Either way he does it he gets pretty much where he wants to go, and it doesn’t take that long.  Speaking of, none of the others crawled until they were supposed to (9 mo) now what am I going to do about my Christmas tree?  I had plans you know.

He sits.  In the past week and a half he’s learned to sit a lot better too.  He and Jesse had a little practice session one day while I was trying to sleep.  It was a cute thing to over hear.  He will fall over after awhile, but he has impressed us with his sitting skills

He laughs and talks.  This has gone way way up lately.  Sometimes even if you just smile really big at him he’ll laugh.  He laughs when he’s tickled or when you make funny faces at him.  He sits and jabbers up a storm sometimes too.  It’s pretty funny!

He loves his food.  He likes a good meal of peaches, pears, sweet potatoes or squash.  Unfortunately I’m lazy and haven’t expanded that diet much, but I’ll get around to it.

This past month Lincoln also got his first case of croup.  That was not fun at all.  We were in Salt Lake when he got it.  I tried to wait it out.  On the way home we stopped a few times, wrapped him up and I stood outside on some random exit holding him so he could breathe in the cold air.  It helped a little.  But we were supposed to go to Logandale too and he wasn’t getting any better.  I didn’t want to end up in the ER in the middle of the night in Mesquite.  So I had a nice ER dr who wrote me for a dexamethasone for him without checking him in.  I was grateful and he gladly took an ENTIRE bucket of pomegranates as pay :) He got over the croupy part a few hours later and the cold hung around awhile longer than that.

Lincoln is still just so much fun!  He knows he’s so cool getting around the house and will just look up at you and smile and giggle.  He loves people and smiles all the time, just so happy!  He has his dr appointment this week, so I don’t know how much he weighs, I’ll have to add that later.  Now on to the cute pictures.

Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving this year we did something we’ve never done before.  We had Thanksgiving at our house.  We had planned to stay in town but it was everyone’s year to be away for in Josh’s family.  His mom just finished up chemo a few weeks ago too so we decided to have them over here.  My parents, Josh’s parents and Jerry all came.  It was lots of fun and we had tons of food.  I forgot to take pictures, so I don’t have too many.

Here’s the boys playing Wii.  Ty was helping Tracen dance.

A little hard work goes a long way

This summer the boys decided that they wanted to earn some money.  They hit up their grandpa for a job mowing his lawn.  Pretty soon they were mowing Grandpa’s lawn, Jade’s lawn and occasionally a few others.  Sometimes they had fun, sometimes it was really hard, they even cried a few times when they were especially hot or tired!  But when they got paid each time we’d divide up their money between the two of them, pay their tithing and then put some in savings and the rest was to spend.  But they saved most of it.  Every once in awhile they’d spend some money on a book or small toy or something, but for the most part they saved it.

Last week that really paid off for them!  They’ve been trying to decide just what they wanted to buy with their money.  Jesse finally decided on a nintendo ds and Tyler bought a red Wii.  The lady at the store made the comment “Mom, I can’t believe you’re buying this stuff before Christmas with the kids here!”  I told her I wasn’t buying it, they’d worked hard all summer to save for it.  I loved seeing how excited they were to have worked hard and then saved for something that they wanted.  One of the things I’ve hoped I could teach my kids is to be better with their money than I have been.  They decided all that hard work was definitely worth it and that they’ll take up lawn mowing again next summer!DSC_0019

Lincoln

It’s almost time for his 6 month post, but I took his 5 month giraffe pictures a little bit ago and never posted them.  And since this is all going to be bound in a book as our family journal AND because he’s so dang cute I wanted to post them anyway.

Such a sweet boy!DSC_0026

Tonight he was on my bed and he rolled over, spotted his bottle and shimmied his way over to it and started trying to suck it down.  It was so funny, so I had to take pictures.

A few family pictures

So I’m a total slacker and procrastinator.  I decided I wanted family pictures done because a) uh Lincoln ain’t in any of them and b) the leaves turned and they were so pretty.  Of course, I had this thought when I saw those pretty leaves and that they were falling off the trees…..fast!  Since I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to get a photographer, like say, today, I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to get any pretty fall pictures.  Luckily for us there is a girl who works with Josh who is also a photography major.  We called her up and she did our pictures the very next day.  Tracen would NOT smile though.  We tricked him into it once  and you’ll find that photo below.  Not kidding no smiling, the more we tried to trick him the more he scowled.  Ya.  But we ended up with some good photos I think.  We’ll be sending out Christmas cards anyway and Link will now grace our wall.  You’ll have to vote on your favorite so I know which one to send out for Christmas…

This one is cute of the boys mostly…

This is where we tricked Tracen.  That’s as good as it gets folks..DSC_0221 copy2

OK so I liked this one of all of us.  Josh doesn’t like the slide in the background.  So I edited it….not sure how I like it.DSC_0258

I think it looks ok but we do have some body parts in weird places without having a slide there.  Like where do Tracen’s feet go?  And what about Josh’s random shoe sticking out.  Course, maybe you’d have never known if I hadn’t pointed them out :)  Guess I could erase the shoe!family edit copy

This one’s kinda cute now that Jenna’s name isn’t in the background…whoever she is…DSC_0296 edit

And then there’s this one.  Which may be it….who knows DSC_0370

Anyway, I’m glad we were able to get them done, grumpy 2 year old and all!  Thanks Kallie for obliging us on such short notice!

K which picture do you want to receive in the mail this year?

Sleep…

DSC_0010 sepia

I think I posted before that Lincoln likes to sleep on his belly.  Tonight I was helping the boys with some last minute things on my bed and Link was laying on the bed next to me.  He rolled onto his belly and way playing and talking one minute and the next thing I knew he’d gone to sleep.  He looked so sweet sleeping there in his diaper.  All peaceful and cute so I grabbed the camera and took a bunch of pictures.  Here are my favorite two, in color and in sepia.  Yep you get them both because I can’t decide which I like better :)  So here he is again…

DSC_0010 copy2

After I’d taken several pictures he decided he’d had enough and turned his head the other way.  Must’ve been the clicking because my flash wasn’t on.  BUT I think the back of his head may just be as cute as the front.  And don’t you just love that dimple in his elbow?

Halloween

Ty is a dork but we love him anyway!DSC_0023

I’m afraid I failed in the cool mom category this Halloween.  I was so excited when I looked at the schedule and I didn’t work this Halloween, but guess what, I worked Friday and Saturday nights.  So I basically slept through the whole thing.  Tyler and Jesse wanted to be characters from the Percy Jackson books.  Easy enough.  We had to find them swords and make T-shirts that said “Camp half blood” on them so it wouldn’t look like they were just dressed up as themselves!  Tracen was a well-loved Buzz Lightyear.  He had fun shooting everyone with his laser.  Jesse wore this costume nearly every day for at least a year when he was Tracen’s age.  And Lincoln was a skeleton with some cute new baby legs to cover up those bare leggy’s.  on a side note, I’ve always thought baby legs probably looked silly on boys, but I was wrong, he looked pretty cute in them!  DSC_0018 DSC_0016

The older boys had a karate party early in the day.  Then while I slept the day away they painted pumpkins.  I guess Josh wasn’t into carving them!   But they had fun and painted away.  My friend Pam at work was super super nice and offered to come in for me for a few hours so that I could go play Halloween with the kiddos.  We were supposed to go to the Trunk or Treat at the church but it got really cold.  Lincoln’s had a stuffy/runny nose and I didn’t want to encourage that at all so we went to Cedar instead and the boys and I trick or treated our old street while Josh stayed with Link in the car.  Then we went and visited Grandma Bev, Crystal and Kurt, some cousins and Grandpa and Grandma Neilson.  Then Josh dropped me off at work, which wasn’t too bad.  Far fewer police-escorted intoxicated persons than last year!  So even though I wasn’t so into Halloween this year as I would have liked to have been, it still turned out pretty good!

And for your view pleasure, more pictures of Tyler being a dork:  :)
