Karate—summer games

The boys were in their first karate competition last weekend.  They competed in the summer games.  There were tons of people there.  They didn’t medal but they did an awesome job I thought.  We had talked about how the important thing was that they went and did their best and had fun.  I think that they did!  They competed in board breaking, flag sparring, sword fighting and then they each did their kata.  The video of their katas are below this post.  They were on opposite sides of the gym so it was kind of hard to make sure we were there for each thing and getting pictures and videos.

Ty…both boys are from the same dojo so they have the same uniform.  Ty is the one with the black helmet, facing towards the picture.

Kata: For their Kata they have to introduce themselves to their judges and tell them what they’ll be doing.  They spent a lot of time practicing this over the past few weeks!  They did the same kata.  They took turns critiquing eachother and being the judges…it was fun to watch!

I had to take Ty’s pictures from way at the top of the bleachers with my big zoom lens so they’re a little far away.DSC_0089 DSC_0092 DSC_0094
