Why I love my job

I was going to post my Easter pictures like everyone else but my computer hates me and died....again. So instead, I decided I'd post the top 10 reasons I love my job. Some are serious, some are sarcastic, but they really are ALL reasons I love my job, and here's why :)

10. I nearly got tasered the other night....I was doing a legal blood draw (for the police, so they were there),the guy decided to move and I yelled at him. Suddenly there was a red dot shining brightly on the guys abdomen, the other end of that red dot was attached to a taser. It was way to close to my arm for comfort. The did tell me (when I asked) that I "probably" wouldn't have gotten tasered and when I asked Josh later he said they were "probably" right. Probably doesn't quite do it for me. Ok, so it's funny now.

9. The nights that are really busy make me really grateful for the slow nights.

8. I really like working with the doctors. They are all great and they don't mind when I ask why they decided to do something, how a medication works in that particular application or other "why'd ya do that" type questions. I like having them there to learn from. Plus, they're mostly just fun to have around.

7. The nights that are really slow make me grateful for the busy nights. Sometimes 4-7 a.m. can feel like a 12 hour shift all on it's own if there's nothing going on.....sometimes.

6. I love the people I work with. The other nurses and techs are great and I enjoy going to work just to see them.

5. I love that I learn at least one new thing every time I go to work. Sometimes the information is random, but most of the time I learn something new that is useful. Some days I learn lots of new things.

4. I love the adrenaline rush when something crazy or hard comes in. It feels good to work hard, use my brain a little bit and hopefully do something good...like maybe save someone's life. That's a good feeling.

3. Some days I love the crazy patients. Especially when they're funny. It makes me laugh and is a different kind of challenge.

2. I love that working 2 days is the equivalent of part time. 12 hour shifts are so nice! I know some people think that's crazy but I love that I get my job done in 2 days and get to spend the rest with my family. I'm working full time right now (which is still only 3 nights) and I will be so excited to go back to part time. I love that I get to spend most of my time with my family.

1. I absolutely love it when I feel like I've helped someone or helped change an outcome that would have been bad/sad. Like when someone comes in with a heart attack and we get them out the door to the cath lab and the next day you find out they're doing great, or when someone comes in bleeding to death and unconcious and by the time you take them to ICU they are sitting up and talking to you. I love it when I actually make a difference.

Hey, I'll have my crew bring some more interesting people in to see you guys at the ER. FYI, nothing will focus your mind so quickly as a TASER experience. You should try it sometime. Kidding, you would have been fine.
