Jesse had his 9th birthday on Thursday. This is one boy that gets excited about his birthday. He’s pretty easy to please though, he wanted sloppy joes and to go shooting for his birthday.
At school they’re doing a unit on South America. Jesse got to do his report on Chile and have his dad come talk to his class about living in Chile. The day he happened to go, also happened to be Jesse’s birthday. He was really excited. It was kinda funny. He got to get up in front of the class and wear Josh’s poncho and hat. Too bad we couldn’t find his spurs.
Jesse wanted an Angry Birds birthday so we made these cupcakes for his class. I did not make these up on my own, I stole them from someone elses blog. But they did turn out pretty cool. We’re having another angry bird big family birthday party for Jesse, Vaughn, Tracen and Lincoln at the end of the month.
When we went to take them to his class I put Tracen in the truck, told him to buckle up and to absolutely NOT to touch the cupcakes. 3 minutes later he’d taken off 7 beaks. I was so mad! It’s a good thing I had 10 extra cupcakes!
After school the boys went to crossfit. Jesse says they did a special WOD for his birthday. Then Josh and Grandpa Neilson took him out shooting. Josh said he had lots of fun and shot a couple hundred rounds through his 22. What a funny kid. They were gone for like 3 hours shooting.
They got home way late but I had dinner waiting for him. Sloppy Joes and artichokes just like he asked for.
I usually give the kids a choice for parties. I tell them we can have a big friend party with cake and ice cream and some games and that they’ll have to help me clean the house and get ready for the party OR he can take 2 friends and go eat or to the movie or bowling or something fun like that. I don’t try to sway them at all by making them help me clean the house :)
This is the first year Jesse chose to take friends and go to a movie. So today his friend Kaden and our neighbor Ethan came and we went to Arctic Circle for ice cream and then to Rio. I bought them popcorn and everything. I think I figured I spent $70 and I didn’t have to make anything or clean my house or listen to 10 crazy boys running amok in my back yard :) Totally worth it. And I probably would have spent that much anyway.
Don’t mind all that mess behind Jesse….it’s just his room.
Tracen enjoyed the party too. Link stayed with Crystal.
So not that this post isn’t already long enough but I thought I should say a few things about Jesse at 9 years old.
Jesse is fun and mischevious. He has that little glimmer of trouble in his eye.
He has lots of good friends, for which I’m very grateful. He gets along with others easily
He plays the piano pretty well when he practices.
He hates to clean. I could bang my head against the wall, yell and scream and he’ll still drag his feet!
He’s loved 3rd grade, his class and his teacher.
He’s a cowboy….he wants a horse, a cow, new boots, loves his spurs, his old boots, his wranglers.
I still can’t understand a word he says when he whines.
He’s terrified of our rooster and it knows it and goes after him all the time. Sometimes we feel bad for him and sometimes we laugh because he’s too scared to come out of the dog pen :)
He likes to be outside, down in the wash, playing, being rough and getting dirty.
Jesse, I sure love you lots. I’m so grateful you came to our family. You are so much fun to have around and I’m so grateful I get to be your mom!
