Fire Safety

Whoever is teaching the first graders fire safety at the boys school is doing a dang good job. This might have something to do with the fact that Jesse's little buddy Billy's dad is a fireman and they go play in the fire safety house on occasion (which includes getting thrown out the window but that's another story!) During the past week we've had a few instances where the fire alarm has gone off--by the way, these are totally unrelated to my ability to cook. The first time Josh told me that Jesse ran out of the house fast. Man he wasn't kidding either.

I cooked a turkey yesterday and in the process of getting it out of the oven the bag sprung a leak and began spilling turkey juice all over the oven creating steam and smoke. So I warned everyone that the fire alarm will be going off soon. Jesse was practicing his piano and as soon as the alarm went off he bolted for the door, leaving it wide open....so that the whole neighborhood can hear our alarm going off (hopefully they're all hard of hearing!). We had to have Ty shut the door (who, by the way, did not bolt out the door). It was seriously hilarious how fast he jumped and ran even though he'd been forewarned!

After we got the turkey juice under control we went and found our little fire safety afficionado and talked to him. He thought the house was going to burn down poor kid! But if you ever want to see someone jump and run just do a test on your fire alarm and he'll be out the door. Might be a good way to get him to go home too if he won't leave your house I guess.
