Capitol Reef

For part of spring break we headed to Capitol Reef with the Guymons for two days.  The first day we spent mostly in the car driving and because it was freezing!  We were kinda bummed that the weather had turned crappy.  We played a very exciting game of phase 10 with the boys in the motel room.    We did stop and see some petroglyphs and play in some holes in the rocks by an old building SANY0020
Josh and Dan coming back from the petroglyphs…they lasted a little longer than the rest of us.  Tracen didn’t want to come back to the truck with me but he was freezing by the time he did!

The second day we actually got to do some hiking!  The morning was a little cold but warmed up pretty fast.  We hiked Hickman arch first.  Lincoln had fallen asleep so I put him in the front carrier hoping he’d stay asleep, but he didn’t.  We had to turn him around pretty quick.  But he enjoyed the trip.  We all decided he had the best seat.  The arch was pretty cool and all the kids, even Addi and Tracen did really good hiking it.  We even got to see some big horn sheep.
This is on the way to the arch…SANY0029 SANY0034
Tracen and the arch….he says “I have a pocket in my shirt!” LOL the little things that they love :)

We had lunch at a nice grassy spot by some orchards and then we went to hike Cassidy’s arch.  Tracen and Lincoln were taking a much needed nap so I stayed in the truck and snoozed with them while everyone else hiked.  Jesse was especially excited to go there because he loves all things cowboy, Jesse James or outlaw related.  Plus Josh was telling him that one of his ancestors rode with Butch Cassidy (is that something we should be proud of :) LOL)

After Tracen and Lincoln woke up I loaded Lincoln into the backpack carrier (which is much better than the front carrier by the way) and we headed up to meet the rest of the group.  This was really fun for me because we just mosied along at Tracen’s pace.  Link loved being in the backpack once we got moving.  Along the way Tracen picked up a rock and banged it on other rocks, he asked if we were going on “this path, or this path, or this path” probably 50 times and he even held out his had and helped me up a big rock.  He was so cute and fun.  We hid behind a big rock when we could see them coming and tried to scare everyone.  Tracen told Link to “shhh be really quiet” so that they wouldn’t hear us.  They said we’d actually done most of the climbing so we must have gotten a pretty good workout.  On the way down Tracen talked Josh into helping him up into a cave he’d wanted to get into earlier but couldn’t because his mom isn’t superwoman and had a baby on her back.

After that we headed home, tired out!  But we had a lot of fun.  We want to go back and do more hikes!  It was really pretty there.

Addi was ready to go hiking again on Sunday. She loved it! Thanks for the fun trip...even though it was miserably cold Thursday. Maybe we could go camp in the Fruita camp area.
